Arnad-Montjovet

The “Arnad-Montjovet” area includes the municipalities of Hône, Arnad, Issogne, Verrès, Challand-Saint-Victor, Champdepraz and Montjovet.

The land is largely characterized by a steep slope on which terraces have been built, which oblige the winegrower to work manually. Furthermore, the plots are very small and divided.

With regard to the forms of farming, a transformation has been experienced in recent years. Where the morphology of the territory allows it, the traditional pergola training system has been almost totally replaced by the counter-espalier. This system favors exposure to solar radiation, which results in an increase in the quality of the grapes; moreover, it has the considerable advantage of reducing manual labor, optimizing working times and lowering management costs thanks to the partial mechanization of cultivation operations.

As for the “Donnas” territory, also in this area Nebbiolo is the characteristic vine used for the production of Arnad-Montjovet; among the reds we find Pinot Noir, which is sometimes blended with Nebbiolo, and other native vines such as Vien de Nus, Ner d’Ala and Roussin.

The most common white grape varieties are Chardonnay, Müller Thurgau, Pinot gris and Petite Arvine.
