Chambave & Nus
The “Chambave” and “Nus” areas include the municipalities of Saint-Vincent, Châtillon, Pontey, Chambave, Saint-Denis, Verrayes, Fénis, Nus and Saint-Marcel and cover the eastern area of the middle valley.
The accentuated slope also characterizes this area. The most common training systems are espalier, with guyot pruning. The pergola is almost absent, while in some areas sapling cultivation can be found, historically very widespread.
It is the climatically driest area of the Aosta Valley and this factor is at the origin of its ancient and consolidated winemaking tradition.
The area is famous for the cultivation of Moscato di Chambave and Pinot Grigio, in the local selection Malvoisie de Nus, both white grape varieties that are of ancient cultivation as evidenced by some documents of the 1300s and 1400s.
Chambave Muscat is highly sought after in the flétri version, that is, obtained from the best bunches of white Muscat left to dry in particular airy and sheltered environments. It is vinified only when the precious grains lose most of the water, highlighting their sugary and aromatic richness.
To these are added various native vines (Petit rouge, Vien de Nus, Cornalin, and Fumin) and numerous international vines, both white and red, widespread throughout the central valley (Syrah, Pinot noir, Gamay, Petite Arvine, Müller Thurgau).
